Gold Trek Lite vs. Pro – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What’s the difference between the Gold Trek Lite and Pro models?
A: The primary difference is in the materials used to make the main body parts. The Gold Trek Pro features a high strength and wear resistant composite nylon, making it more rigid and durable. The Lite version uses a tough, lightweight copolymer plastic which is lighter while providing high impact resistance at the cost of overall rigidity and wear resistance.
Q: Is there a performance difference between Lite and Pro?
A: No—performance is the same. Both versions use the same 36" long sluice with drop riffles, damper flap, and Crux Drop Riffle matting. You'll get identical gold capture capabilities and throughput (~1 yard/hr unclassified material).
Q: How much do the two versions weigh?
A:
-
Lite: ~10 lbs assembled
-
Pro: Slightly heavier, around ~13 lbs
Both are backpackable and designed for ultralight field use.
Q: What are the main advantages of choosing the Pro version?
A:
-
Composite nylon material formulation: Durable, more rigid, higher wear resistance
-
Outdoorsman aesthetic: Available in military colors, army green, desert tan, black and carbon fiber
If you prospect frequently or want top-tier materials and performance, the Pro is worth the upgrade.
Q: Can I upgrade from Lite to Pro later?
A: The core components of the system are how they are classified which makes it difficult to upgrade without replacing the entire system. If you have purchased a Lite System and are interested in upgrading please contact us to discuss potential options
Q: Which version is best for beginners?
A: The Lite is perfect for beginners or budget-conscious hobbyists. It offers full performance and all essential features are included. The Pro is better for seasoned prospectors who want the most rugged option long term.
Q: Are both models compatible with the same pumps and hoses?
A: Yes. Both versions use the same spray bar system, 1 inch inlet, and are compatible with recommended 12V bilge or gas pumps. Please see our Water Pump FAQ for more information.
